Average Snowfall Across Chester County
How much snow falls where — every observer, compared storm by storm
Chester County averages about 26 to 28 inches of snow a season (1991–2020), but not evenly. The northern ridges around Warwick, French Creek and the Nantmeal hills average 30 to 32 inches, while the far south around Landenberg and London Britain averages closer to 21. Elevation drives most of the difference: about 30% more snow for every 1,000 feet, measured by comparing observers in the same storms.
The map is built from every human snow observer we have — NWS cooperative observers, CoCoRaHS volunteers, trained spotters and NWS public reports — compared storm by storm so stations from different decades can be judged fairly, then filled in between observers using USGS terrain. Each labelled dot is that observer’s estimated average season. See also Chester County’s Biggest Snowstorms.
